The conference on the Reformation

On 19th of May the State Language Commission in collaboration with the Latvian Bible Society organized an international conference “Reformation, Language, Culture.” It took place in the Riga castle. It was opened by State President Raimonds Vējonis, Chair of the State Language Commission Andrejs Veisbergs and General Secretary of the Latvian Bible Society Valdis Tēraudkalns. The conference gathered German, Estonian and Latvian scholars from various fields - theology, philosophy, cultural studies, history, translation studies, and linguistics. Papers read in this conference will be published at the second part of this year. This conference is a fruit of a long-term collaboration between the State Language Commission and the Latvian Bible Society, The last similar symposium was organized in 2013.

"Languages that does not have the Bible translation are dead. If the nation has it's own language and culture, it will have a chance to establish it's own state." (Raimonds Vējonis, State President). 

Valdis Tēraudkalns, General Secretary of the Latvian Bible Society, presents the Bible in Latvian to the State President Raimonds Vējonis.
