About the Latvian Bible Society

The Latvian Bible Society is inter-confessional organization, which translates, publishes and distributes the Bible and other Bible related literature in Latvia. It works also with holistic projects in accordance with its vision to be in dialogue with wider society.

The first Bible Society at the territory of Latvia was formed in 1813. The Latvian Bible Society is a member of the United Bible Societies (UBS). In its work take part people from all Christian denominations.

Our goals

- to translate Bible in language which can be easily understood and is faithful to the original texts;

– to distribute Bible without doctrinal notes or comments;

– to distribute Bible at a price which is acceptable to the purchaser and in format people will appreciate.

To respond to contemporary challenges we all face means helping people to interact with the Bible in various ways and to work in wider context in partnership with various governmental and nongovernmental organizations.
